Sustainability

Mahindra and Mahindra has always been at the forefront of sustainability. We first started reporting on sustainability in 2007-08 as per GRI guidelines and all our sustainability reports have been rated 'A+'.

Our Chairman and MD, Mr. Anand Mahindra rightly pointed out, "When it comes to sustainability, it's time to move on. Quit the comfort zone and set challenging aspirational targets on issues of strategic importance.

From operationalizing sustainability in day-to-day activities to helping companies strategically leverage sustainability for competitive advantage, over the years, sustainability has been seeded in our business conduct. Alternative Thinking has fuelled the sustainability journey of Mahindra. After institutionalizing a sustainability framework in the first year, in subsequent years it has successfully spread throughout different hierarchies of businesses.

We strive to perform well in all aspects of sustainability- Economic, Product Responsibility, Society, Environment, Governance, Labor and Human Rights. For example, following our vision of Farm-Tech Prosperity, we've also expanded into farm-support services apart from farm equipment machinery. Various initiatives are taken across the company to make sure that we are ahead of the curve in the areas of sustainability. This gives us a competitive edge over our peers as it accelerates innovation and adds value to all the layers of operations across the enterprise.

The Company has been recognized for its high standards of ethics and Governance and enjoys a strong corporate brand image. We are one of the companies listed in the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes Emerging Market index (Asia Pacific region). Apart from this, we are ranked seventh in India in the Carbon Disclosure Project- Climate Change (2012-13). A US based Reputation Institute recently ranked Mahindra and Mahindra Limited among the top 10 Indian companies in its Global 200: The Company recently received the Credit rating of AAA, which is the highest credit rating by India Rating & Research, the domestic arm of the global rating agency Fitch.
